The Jim Dewald Emerging Leaders Scholarship funds Calgary Chamber memberships for students looking to start their careers on the right foot
The Calgary Chamber, in partnership with Inspiring Business Leaders Awards and Coril Holdings, is pleased to support the continued growth and development of student-level memberships for post-secondary students through the Jim Dewald Emerging Leaders Scholarship.
Student members have the ability to build a network of connections that will be a foundation that endures into their careers. Up to 200 students each year are selected to receive a fully funded student membership, which includes:
- 50 event credits and member rates for all Calgary Chamber events
- Professional headshot (based on availability, once per membership lifetime)
- Access to member benefits and discounts through BOOM

Students who already have a Calgary Chamber membership are not eligible to apply.
About Jim Dewald
Jim Dewald is a professor of strategy at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, and Executive Advisor with Bright Wire Leadership.
Biography
Jim Dewald is a professor of strategy at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, and Executive Advisor with Bright Wire Leadership.
From 2012 to 2023 he was dean of the Haskayne School of Business. Prior to entering academics, Jim was President & CEO in the engineering consulting and real estate development industries, where he led innovations for new master-planned communities such as McKenzie Towne and Elbow Valley (both named Canada’s best new community). As dean, he oversaw the creation of six centres of excellence, the Creative Destruction Lab – Rockies, two new graduate degree programs and the construction of Mathison Hall.
Jim earned a BSc (engineering) and MBA degrees from the University of Alberta, and a PhD from the University of Calgary. He has served on over 30 boards and was named Calgary’s Citizen of the Year, Thought Leader by Alberta Real Estate Foundation, Honorary Member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada, and 2022 Male Champion within the Calgary Women in Business Awards. He is currently a Director of the Trico Group and Advisor to Ozone Advisory, Pembina Institute, Partners for Affordable Housing, and on the Dean’s Advisory Councils for the Faculties of Social Work and for Veterinary Medicine.
