Statement: Calgary Chamber calls for prompt resolution to Canada Post labour disruption

This statement is attributable to Deborah Yedlin, President & CEO at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce

“Canada Post plays a critical role in ensuring Canadians – particularly those in rural, remote and Indigenous communities – remain connected. As an essential service, it supports businesses nationwide that rely on convenient, affordable shipping to operate effectively. The ongoing labour disruption risks causing widespread shipping delays and significant supply chain interruptions, with nine in ten businesses reporting it will negatively affect their operations. Small and medium-sized enterprises will be hit particularly hard, with rising costs and reduced customer access compounding the difficulties they already face amid economic uncertainty and ongoing trade tensions with the United States, including issues surrounding de minimis tariffs.

“We strongly urge all parties to return to the bargaining table and reach a fair, negotiated agreement without delay. The longer this disruption persists, the more profound the strain on businesses and the communities they serve. The stability of Canada Post is essential for businesses to remain competitive and connected, and any prolonged disruption will only intensify the challenges facing businesses, workers and customers across the country.”
