Ready to Level Up? As the presenting sponsor of this year’s Chamber Fest, professional services firm RSM Canada is helping Calgary’s businesses reach higher scores of success.
“We believe in showing up,” says Ian Constable, Calgary Office Leader at RSM Canada. “For our clients, for our people and for our city.”
The partnership with the Calgary Chamber started with a simple meeting last fall. Ian ran into Melanie McDonald, Vice-President, Strategic Initiatives, Partnerships and Engagement at the Chamber, at an industry event. That conversation turned into coffee meetings and ideas about how to work together.
“That kind of connection is exactly how we work,” says Brooke Taylor, Assurance Manager at RSM Canada. “We don’t just send out cold emails. We show up, have real conversations and look for ways to help.”
A global firm with local focus
RSM is a leading global network of independent firms offering audit, tax and consulting services to middle-market businesses. With offices in over 120 countries, RSM supports clients through deep local relationships and international reach. But its team in Calgary stays focused on local business. Since joining the global RSM network in 2018, the Canadian firm has grown fast, opening offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Toronto and Kitchener. They plan to open in Ottawa and Montreal soon, with the goal of becoming three times bigger in Canada by 2030.
But for Ian and Brooke, growth is not just about numbers. It’s about helping mid-sized businesses, the kind that power cities like Calgary.
“We’re a North American firm that’s owned by its partners,” says Ian. “We don’t try to do everything. We focus on what we’re good at, and we do it really well.”
Helping clients across borders, Brooke explains that this international approach is one of their strengths.
“If a client needs help in the U.S. or elsewhere, we can connect them with someone quickly. That kind of support makes a big difference.”
Building community, one connection at a time
Brooke and Ian both enjoy what they do, not just because of the technical side of their roles, but because of the people they get to work with.
“I never thought I’d be an auditor,” admits Brooke. “I love it. I work with great people, solve real problems and every day is different.”
Ian, who joined the firm in 2002, shares a similar sentiment. What keeps him motivated after more than two decades is the culture and RSM’s commitment to cultivating a supportive, welcoming environment.
“It’s about how you treat people. Whether it’s your team, your clients, or the community, respect matters.”
For both Brooke and Ian, building community also means showing up, creating meaningful relationships and investing in long-term connections—values that align closely with their involvement in the Chamber and their broader role in Calgary’s business landscape.
Why Chamber Fest matters
RSM saw Chamber Fest as a great way to connect with Calgary’s business community. It also happens to be in the same building where RSM’s Calgary office is located: the Ampersand.
“We think it’s fun, but also meaningful,” Ian said. “This isn’t just about putting our logo on something. It’s about being part of the community.”
This year’s event theme is Level Up, with retro arcade games and activities that encourage conversations and new ideas. For RSM, that’s the kind of environment where real connections happen.
“There’s a lot of change happening in business right now,” says Ian. “Having strong partners like the Chamber helps us all move forward.”
In addition to presenting Chamber Fest, the team is already looking at other ways to partner with the Chamber through events, panels and speaking opportunities.
Brooke adds, “We’re still building our name in Calgary. But we want to be the firm people think of when they’re ready to grow.”
