Canadian Centre of Recovery Excellence
On April 2, 2024, the Alberta provincial government announced two groundbreaking initiatives: the establishment of the Canadian Centre of Recovery Excellence (CoRE) and Recovery Alberta, a new agency dedicated to mental health and addiction services.
The creation of CoRE was driven by a singular purpose: to find the most effective ways to support recovery. The centre’s mission is to empower decision making with the best available information on what works and what does not work to support individuals with mental illness or addiction in their pursuit of recovery. This analysis of the Alberta Recovery Model will inform best practices, conduct comprehensive assessments and program evaluations, and support the development of functional policies in mental health and addiction.
CoRE is committed to transforming how recovery is understood and achieved. To ensure its stability and effectiveness, CoRE was designated to become a Crown corporation under the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction.
