Investing in our trade infrastructure and relationships

Canada’s economy depends on trade — with goods and services flowing across provinces and borders every day. To remain competitive, we must invest in the infrastructure, relationships and policies that make internal and global trade possible.

Why it matters

From the food on our shelves to the oil and gas that powers our economy to the goods our businesses export, we depend on reliable supply chains and strong trade relationships to keep our country moving. 

Yet geopolitical instability, ongoing supply chain disruptions and uncertainty in our trading relationship with the United States threaten our ability to grow and compete.   

At the same time, our trade infrastructure is falling behind, which impacts not just trade but increases costs for business, delays projects, drives up prices for Canadians and impairs our reputation as a reliable trading partner. 

More than ever, we need to expand our trade infrastructure and diversify our markets. This mean investing in roads, rail, ports, aviation and pipelines; strengthening global trade relationships; eliminating interprovincial trade barriers; and supporting the small businesses that power Canadian exports.  

The Calgary Chamber continues to advocate for a trade system that is reliable, resilient and built for long-term growth.
