Vanterra HR

When Roselyn Himann launched Vanterra Human Resources in July 2024, she wasn’t just starting a new business, she was building something personal. After decades in the HR world and leadership roles at established firms, she saw a gap in the market for services that focused not just on strategy, but on people. With this, she made a bold decision: to build something of her own.

That something became Vanterra.

“I wanted to create a place where our team loves what they do,” she says. “You can feel it when someone is doing work that aligns with their purpose. That’s the energy I want clients to experience every time they interact with us.”

From the beginning, Vanterra set out to do things differently. Whether they are helping someone through a job loss or working with a company on leadership coaching, their focus is always the same: building real relationships and leading with empathy.

A business built on purpose

Roselyn often talks about a concept that shaped Vanterra’s foundation: ikigai. It’s a Japanese idea that represents the overlap between what you love, what you’re good at, and what people will pay you to do. She uses it not just to guide her own work, but to hire the right people.

“When I speak to potential consultants, I ask them: are you doing what you love?” she says. “Because when someone is aligned with their purpose, it shows. And that’s exactly what we want for our team, and for the companies we support.”

This philosophy is baked into Vanterra’s services. Whether it’s helping an employee navigate job loss or working with a company to design a more supportive workplace, the goal is always the same: show up with care, clarity, and consistency. For Roselyn and her team, HR isn’t just about processes. It’s about people.

“No matter if it’s one person or three hundred,” she says, “we treat every conversation like it matters. Because it does.”

A team you want to be part of

What’s equally important to Roselyn is the culture she’s building inside Vanterra.

Vanterra is creating a sense of belonging, even for part-time or freelance team members.

“We’ve got a Christmas party. A patio party. Cooking classes,” she says. “Even if people are only working a few hours a month, I want them to feel part of something. I want them to choose us.”

Today, the team includes 13 consultants, and it’s growing. Roselyn’s goal isn’t to become the largest firm, but the most intentional. The one people talk about because of how they were treated, not just the results they got.

From Calgary to the world

Even though Vanterra is under a year old, its impact is already extending far beyond Alberta.

Roselyn recently reconnected with a global network of HR organizations and career transition firms. Vanterra is now the Canadian partner in that group, offering international companies support in Canada, and giving Canadian clients access to trusted partners abroad.

Roselyn recently presented at the network’s annual conference in Madrid. She’s also been invited to join the Ireland–Alberta Trade Mission in Dublin, where she’ll represent Vanterra as part of a growing movement of Calgary businesses expanding globally.

“It’s exciting,” she says. “But for me, it’s not about getting big just to be big. It’s about staying true to what we set out to do: providing excellent, values-aligned support to the people who trust us.”

Rooted in community

Vanterra joined the Calgary Chamber earlier this year, and Roselyn is looking forward to connecting with other business owners and building strong local relationships.

“Being part of the Chamber feels like a natural fit,” she says. “We’re based here, we work here, we live here. It just makes sense to be connected.”

Vanterra might be a new name, but its foundation is built on experience. With Roselyn leading the way, Vanterra is already showing what’s possible when heart and strategy work together.

“We’re still new,” she says, “but we’re grounded. And we’re growing with purpose.”
